Bed Time

Bedtime

oh the wail of the tired child
distracted all day by rain
capricious puddle jumping
early evening
examining every soaked leaf
and scattered twig

resisting pajamas
with a wriggly slither
boisterous caterwauling
about everything
lack of blanket, too much singing
milk too frothy

mother will erupt
the bronzed baby shoes
hint at the days
of newborn sleep

tomorrow will be verdant
new flowers will bloom
and hopefully a
rested little mind
will expand its branches
in the morning
